Jacodu Childrens Project

Jacodu is a village situated in the hills in the county of Tirgu Mures in Romania, at the end of the village is a small poor families community, existing of fifteen families where there are 64 children. The children from these families are living in squalor and need without daily basic food items and toiletries, so consequently they do not attend school, their daily lives are without hope as is their future.

Love Light Romania became aware of the plight of the children at Jacodu and felt that we could not walk away from their sad situation and that just delivering bags of food periodically was not going to solve their real problem of serious poverty. The children are being let down by the society they live in, tucked away in the hills on the edge of a village they, like the little community they live in, are forgotten.

Or not to have soap to keep them clean and know that they are going to feel the same when they grow up, because they have no hope." - Jo Jowett, Co-Founder Love Light Romania The children are living without decent hygienic conditions, no running water in their homes, not even outside toilets, the roofs on the houses are totally in-adequate, mostly made up of pieces of plastic. So when it rains, snows or is cold the inside of the houses become wet and basically un-habitable.

Many of the children are not registered, this means they do not have the right to healthcare or education and the parents do not receive government allocations for them. The families are so poor they cannot afford to purchase daily basic food items like bread for the children. They are living without decent cooking stoves, furniture or cooking implements and crockery.

Love Light Romania has made a commitment to the children of Jacodu and we have launched an appeal on their behalf. Firstly we feel that if we improve their day to day lives and their living conditions, then we can support them to attend school. If they receive an education they will have life opportunities that their parents have not had and we shall help stop, in that particular poor families community, the cycle of generation after generation of children living in poverty.

The aims, as well as supporting the children to receive an education is to set up self sustainable live stock, food crop, traditional craft making programmes.

This project to support the children at Jacodu was launched in August 2010 and Love Light Romania are appealing on their behalf for sponsorship to full fill the aims of the project. We are keen to give an insight into the lives of the children and their desperate need, to help us raise awareness so that we can make a positive difference to their lives and future.
